My former New York Life ran smack into my new San Francisco life, thanks to a cute grocery store in South Park called Small Food. It is an excellent concept, a grocery store that is the size of a New York Deli, that is not quiet high-end gourmet food and not just run of the mill deli.. it offers a little bit of everything at reasonable prices which is a nice surprise!
Small Foods also has a handsome bar that serves wine, beer and coffee, with bar stools and cafe tables, the seating area seats about 15.. to 20 max. It’s not a coffee bar, it’s not a wine bar, it’s not a beer garden, it is primarily a grocery store with a cool bar and seating area. The tec crowd is located in South Park so that is who is there but South Park also has retail shops and my hair salon is there the amazing Janiell Smith and her Salon Grasshopper. She and her crew go to small foods all the time because it’s close and its easy and not pretentious at all… which is so nice!!..There next location will be fourth and Market and tenth and Market right in the middle of the tenderloin, drugs, SRO’s, and a heavy concentration of homeless..it will ,in that location feel just like Manhattan of the 90’s..
which actually makes for an interesting oasis in the middle of chaos.
Small Foods is truly hip because it is a grocery store that is down to earth, interesting and not trying to be anything but what it is ..
