Wow My Grandmother passed away on August 24, 2012…she was born Thomas Virgil Stephenson She was named after her father who died in April three months before she was born… he was my great grandmothers “Love of her Life” so my grandmother had a man’s name her whole life.. she went by TV and then later in life by Vergie and we called her gram and as we got older just “Ma”…she was just Ma …to ALL of us..and lucky us we had her for 95 years mostly in good health and she left all of us with the beauty of knowing her and the amazing grace of a lovley person who had a lovely life …and an enormous, loving gentle funny fun loving open and excepting FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and that I am forever greatful to be part of such a fun loving intersting, honest and truly LOVING family…She and my grandfather gave us them and each other and that is the very very very very best part…

so as a tribute to Ma…I want to share with you a few things that remind me of her..

big blue and white Hydrainnga’s…Rocky the dog…the back yard that had a boat in it…my grandfathers wiskers the smell of oil on his hands …bacon sitting on the kitchen counter, and me looking up at it..biscuits..plastic  noodles,…getting my hair braided and it hurting..sitting on crunchy furniture..the sun keeping me company..lemons on the tree in the back yard..rotting fruit on the ground, silver dollors..and her voice saying ok now…”I’ll be seeinhg you” or “see you next time”…and her little laugh …….we cry when we have to say goodbye to our loved ones …but the truth is we should laugh..because we were lucky to have them in our life..and lucky to share them with others….and when it’s time to let them go we should do so with grace and gratitude knowing that we were blessed with such beautiful souls who were in our lives and will forever be in our hearts.. like lovely old books, like a song you can not stop singing, like the air we breath, the sun on tear stained eyelashes..long hugs.. …lovely smell of wet grass and a spray of ocean on a hot day…Thank You Ma.. for so much lovely LIFE….

love you,

your granddaughter…
